The mysterious aurora borealis

Tonight, my husband and I have finally seen the northern lights. We didn't have to go to Lapland, it happened right here in Tampere! It was about 9:30, we were on our way home, talking while walking close to each other. I looked around, and I tilted my head up probably to search for visible stars. I saw right away the strange glow, a curtain of green lights, dancing gracefully across the sky.

We stopped walking for a while. We stood there in awe, savoring the magical moment. Perhaps two to three minutes have passed before the aurora borealis disappeared from our sight completely.

What makes this experience more memorable and almost miraculous is that, my beloved uncle passed away this day. He was close to my family, a tatay (father) to me specially when I was in high school. He was the one who instantly came to my mind while watching the northern lights. It felt like he was up there amidst the aurora. It was a sublime moment, a lovely memory to remember him with.
